About Michael Kumer

Michael Kumer is the founder and CEO of Boards Made to Order, a boutique consulting practice that enables nonprofit boards to make a difference, leave a legacy, and change the world. He assists nonprofit boards in achieving excellence in all areas of governance, including exceptional board meetings, board member recruitment, and effective board structures.

Prior to founding Boards MTO, Michael was the Executive Director of Duquesne University’s Nonprofit Leadership Institute (NLI), and Associate Dean of the University's School of Leadership and Professional Advancement.

In addition to his acumen on current trends in community leadership, Michael enjoys sharing personal experiences accumulated as a board or advisory council member for such prestigious organizations as the Allegheny County Library Association, Music for All, Pittsburgh Chamber Music Society, and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. He served as vice president for the board of PANO, the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations. Michael’s roster of satisfied clients includes those from the civic, community, and economic sectors, as well as those from arts and education, health and human services, associations, and other membership organizations.

In addition to the many U.S. nonprofits he serves, Michael’s global clients have included non-governmental organizations in India, Jamaica, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Russia, and South Africa.
